Topic: The laboratory tour and Reflective JournalPaper details:
Aims of the laboratory tour: To provide an overview of the scientific and professional practice in modern healthcare. To introduce medical laboratory techniques and methods. To provide the opportunity to meet Biomedical Scientists and see their working environment. To provide a foundation for the further study of medical science.
The laboratory tour and Reflective Journal
Normally at this point in the module we would arrange a tour of the Pathology laboratories in a local hospital, Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, but unfortunately this will be impossible during the ongoing pandemic for what I hope are obvious reasons. The laboratory visit would normally introduce you to biomedical practice in the clinical laboratories and give an overview of the techniques and investigations used for studying health and disease.
However, there is a good virtual alternative (see below) which will meet all of the aims for this part of the model, although it can clearly do little about the disappointment of missing the real visit. Assessment: This part of the module will be assessed by asking you to complete a reflective journal. Please read the guidance carefull.
