Good afternoon, I’m hoping to release the material you need for the molecular biology practical later this week so that you have a chance to familiarize yourself with it before our session on the 22nd of February. One of the activities you will need to complete by the submission deadline (10th March, 12 PM) is the drawing of a graph on 3-cycle semi-log paper (in this example they use 2-cycle semi-log paper, but it’s a good explanation).
I’ve attached a copy of this paper so that you have as much time as possible to print off a few copies. The instructions on how to submit your graph will be included on Blackboard, but they are also copied below. I recommend the free Microsoft Lens phone app: it is really easy to use to create PDF documents. Please bring any questions to our session next week (the Teams link will be shared on Blackboard and on the module Teams site).
Best wishes, IMPORTANT: How to submit graphs You will need to submit a graph for this assignment which may be a challenge since you will have to download the graph paper, print it, and then draw it by hand. However, there are some solutions: 1. You may be able to scan the graph and convert it to a PDF file at home. 2. If you can get to a Library photocopier (or any other modern photocopier) you can scan the graph and convert it to a PDF file. 3. You can download (for free) Microsoft Lens onto your phone and scan the graph and convert it to a PDF file. I would recommend this app: it is very easy to use.
4. You can photograph the graphs and then copy them into a Word document, but this is potentially the worst option because the photos can use a lot of megabytes and create a huge file. If you choose this option please use the lowest resolution photo possible that still shows your work accurately. As usual, let me know as soon as possible if you come across any technical problems.
