First, research and summarize the diversity in Houston ISD. You can find statistics on demographics of the district online. Next, discuss how and why this information would be relevant for a first-year teacher in Houston ISD. Finally, find a peer-reviewed journal article on multicultural education (in K-12 schools) and apply the information in the article to your research on Houston ISD – how would a first-year teacher in Houston make use of this framework?
- Make sure you read the prompt carefully and respond to each component of it. Additionally, the prompt includes required references that must be in your paper to help you answer the prompt. These are a minimum – you are welcome to use more references than the ones that are required (as long as you also include the required references). For each paper, keep these general points in mind:
- Formatting and length: Each paper should be 3 double-spaced pages total. Use 12 point Times New Roman font and 1 inch margins all around. Do not include any extra spaces between paragraphs or sections. You should include a title page that contains your name, the date, and the semester and course. This page will not count towards your page total. In addition, you will submit a reference page that is on a separate page (does not count towards your point total) that is formatted in APA style.
- References and Citations: Your references section and in-text citations must be formatted in APA style. See the resources on Blackboard for help formatting your references section. In addition, you should include in-text citations whenever you are discussing information you found in one of your sources. You should include in-text citations to all the required references so I can see how you used them in your paper.
- Grading criteria:For each paper, you will be graded on the following areas:
- Clarity and comprehensiveness: You will be graded on how clearly you
communicated your ideas as well as how comprehensively you answered the
questions. Be sure to address each component of the prompt and clearly demonstrate
your knowledge and understanding based on the textbook and your additional
research.
- Required references: You will be graded on the inclusion of all required references as well as your use of APA style. Be sure to double-check the assignment prompts to ensure you have included ALL the required references. Be sure to double check your use of APA style – make note of italics, punctuation, etc. in addition to all the required information being included in the citation and in the correct order.
- Grammar/style and Organization: You will be graded on your ability to communicate effectively using grammar conventions and an appropriate style. In academic papers, you should communicate clearly and directly, back up your assertions with evidence, have a cohesive and organized structure, and communicate without grammatical or typographical errors.
- Originality and Logic of Connections with Course Material: You will be graded on your ability to synthesize information from the course material from the textbook, and at least one peer-reviewed journal article. You may discuss your ideas with other classmates but be sure that what you write about reflects some of your original thoughts and ideas.
- General tips:Make sure all the information in your paper is summarized and properly cited. Direct quotations should be used minimally, if at all. If you do include a direct quote (and again, I discourage this), it must be noted as a quotation (in quotation marks) and needs to have a full citation with the page number in APA style. I am most interested in your in-text citations and your references section being formatted in APA style; there is no need to add an abstract, running head, et that you would normally find in APA-formatted research paper.
