Week 3 Discussion 1
You come across this message in your favorite discussion group while cruising the Internet: “Help! My firm has just given me the responsibility of leading a new product design team. The division manager has great expectations for the team and for myself, but I’ve been a technical design engineer for four years, having graduated from college. I’ve never been in charge of someone, let alone a team. The manager expresses her trust in my ability to build a “high-performance team.” Is there anyone out there that can give me some advice on how to conquer this challenge? Help! [signed] Pat.” You decide to respond as a responsible Internet citizen. What message are you going to send out? In your first post, reference and quote the course textbook.
Week 3 Discussion 2
What attributes have you found to be related with effective leadership and why is it vital to consider leadership as a relational process? What kind of leadership experience do you have? What worked good and what didn’t work so well?
Week 3’s homework
Criticism of an Article
Look through professional publications for two pieces about organizational behavior that you’re interested in. According to the directions below, you must critique each of the two articles. Articles should be no older than three years. The ProQuest Database, which may be accessible in the Ashford Online Library, is highly recommended. The following three parts must be included in each one- to two-page critique (for a total of two to four pages for both critiques):
Identification of the Article – Give the reader enough information about your article to enable him or her to locate it. Describe the steps you took to find the information you needed.
The Article’s Summary – Make a list of the important points that the author tries to make (i.e., 1, 2, 3 or first, second, third). Three to five primary points are usually included. If you’re summarizing a court case, you should cover the following topics: What part of the law was in question? Give a summary of the case’s facts. What legal standards were used? Was there anything odd about the case?
Your Opinion – Provide an analytical, critical, and logical answer to the author’s points, or a general assessment of the piece. A mere affirmative or negative statement is insufficient. While you may make such a comment as an introduction to your reply, the grounds for your position must be stated clearly and logically.
