Textbook:
Ritter, L. A., & Graham, D. H. (2017). Multicultural health (2nd ed.). Jones & Bartlett.
Each student will develop a Culturally Specific Health Promotion Paper targeting a specific cultural group which will be presented to colleagues through a Zoom presentation. The purpose of this project is to develop a health promotion tool that addresses a specific population and health issue and identifies key cultural components that are incorporated into the health promotion tool design. Using the nursing process, the student will develop the paper that is documented in a formal, written, scholarly paper. The student will identify a diverse population, either one covered in the class or another of their choosing. (100 points)
Guidelines and Grading Criteria:
Title
- In an introductory paragraph or two, identify the cultural population, the health issue, and the epidemiology of the disease or issue affecting this population. State the reason for the selection of the population and the health issue. (10 points)
Assessment
- Discuss the background of the current health status of the population.
- Identify the prevalence and impact of the health issue in the community. (10 points)

For example, this may include a brochure, Powerpoint, information sheet, or PSA video. This is your opportunity to be creative. Create something you can share with your classmates that they can use to educate their patients or other nurses. Describe the teaching tool, but do not include it within the paper or as an appendix. (10 points)
- Include a paraphrase discussing what makes this program or plan appropriate for the selected cultural group. (10 points)
Evaluation
- Describe methods to evaluate the effectiveness of the tool or teaching plan. (10 points)
References
- Create a title page using the APA Slide Show and Sample Title Page under Start Here as an example. Be certain all required settings have been made in Microsoft Word and locked in as default. The title of the paper should be related to the topic of your specific paper. Do not use the title of an article as the title of the paper. Utilize the syllabus grading criteria as level one headings.
- The body of the paper must be five to seven pages in length. Follow APA guidelines for manuscript preparation. Include a title page and a reference page. Utilize appropriate levels of headings. Do not use a bulleted or numbered list. There must be a minimum of one direct quote and two paraphrases in the body of the paper. One paraphrase must cite multiple works in the same parenthesis (APA p. 263). There must be a concluding paragraph rather than just an ending, but do not include Conclusion as a level one heading.
- Review the APA manual pages 316-317 to formulate the proper citation for your articles based on whether a digital object identifier (doi) is available or not. Paper and other software for APA formatting are not recommended. Do not use the APA feature in Word as it does not allow faculty to insert comments and tracked changes. Use the Cite feature of the database but remember to make necessary APA corrections.
- The reference list must include at least five peer-reviewed journal references (nursing journals if possible) not more than five years old.
- The reference list must include the major textbook in this course. Faculty want to ensure you are reading it. To earn a spot on the reference page, each source must be included in the citation for a paraphrase or quote within the body of the paper.
Non-peer reviewed articles, textbooks, other books, and websites may be additional references, but Wikipedia and similar sites are not acceptable. Only paraphrases and quotes in the body of the paper appear on the reference page.
